








DOVER, Del. - Delaware State University won five of six regular team matches en route to a 7-5 overall record at the St. Francis College (N.Y.) New Year's Knockdown women's bowling tournament last weekend.
The Hornets
were 2-4 in Baker matches during the tourney.
In the regular team matches, DSU defeated Sacred Heart (983-884), Kutztown (956-943), St. Francis (960-954), Long Island (940-907) and Hampton (915-750). Wisconsin-Whitewater handed the Hornets their only loss (794-995) in regular play.
Nicole Bower was the top individual performer for the Hornets, finishing 14th among the more than 50 competitors with a total pinfall of 1,172 in six games (195.3 avg.). Bower topped the 200 mark in three games, including a high of 232 in the opening match.
Delaware
State's Stephanie Sheridan rolled a season-high 236 while totaling 1,149
for the tournament (191.5 avg.), 18th among all bowlers.
DSU's Briana Bush was 19th in the tournament with a total pinfall of 1,147 in six games. (191.1 avg.)
The highlight of the Hornets' Baker play in the New Year's Knockdown was a victory over defending national champion UMES for the first time this season. DSU also defeated host St. Francis, while falling to Sacred Heart, Kutztown, Wisconsin-Whitewater and Long Island in Baker matches last weekend.
