UDel Senior Grabs Third CAA Player of the Week Honor

RICHMOND, Va. – For the second consecutive week and the third time this season, senior Elena Delle Donne has been named the Colonial Athletic Association women's basketball Player of the Week.

The All-American averaged 28.5 points per game as she led the Blue Hens to a pair of conference victories. Delle Donne poured in 19 points in a win over Northeastern and then drained 38 points in a win against Towson.

The 38 points against the Tigers was a season-high and the eighth highest for Delle Donne in her four years at Delaware. She surpassed the 30-point mark for the 31st time in her illustrious career.

Delle Donne shot 54.5 (18-33) from the field on the week, including 3-5 (.600) from behind the arc, in addition to going 18-20 (.900) from the charity stripe. The forward added 10 rebounds, five assists, five blocks and four steals without giving up a single turnover.

For the season, Delle Donne averages 24.4 points and 9.5 rebounds per contest.

The Blue Hens (13-3; 4-0 CAA) have won eight straight games, including 23 consecutive in league action. They have moved up to first place in the CollegeInsider Mid-Major Poll (Jan. 14) and have received seven votes in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll (Jan. 21).

Drexel's Taylor Wootton shares CAA Player of the Week Honors with Delle Donne while Old Dominion's LaQuanda Younger was named the Rookie of the Week.

Delaware looks to continue their winning streaks Thursday as they host UNCW at 7 p.m. at the Bob Carpenter Center.
