SALISBURY, Md.- A 52-year-old woman is behind bars following accusations that she stole thousands of dollars in jewelry from a Salisbury home where she worked as a housekeeper.

The Wicomico County Sheriff's Office reports that the arrest of Alice Dawn Pryor of Parsonsburg came at the conclusion of an investigation that got under way in early December.

According to investigators, Pryor is accused of stealing the jewelry while she was employed as a housekeeper at a home on Nanticoke Road in Salisbury. Police said that when the victim in this case confronted Pryor about the missing jewelry, Pryor returned to help her look for it. Investigators said that while looking for the jewelry, Pryor allegedly found them all in a plastic baggie that had fallen behind the dresser. However, police said the baggie did not belong to the victim and it also included jewelry that did not belong her.

The jewelry reportedly stolen by Pryor had a combined total value of more than $4,000, according to police.

At the conclusion of the investigation, a warrant was obtained for Pryor's arrest. She was taken into custody on Tuesday, Jan. 22, and charged with theft over $1,000 and under $10,000. She is being held in the Wicomico County Detention Center in lieu of $20,000 bond.
