FEMA Aid Sought for Blizzard Damage in Western Md.

WASHINGTON (AP)- Some of Maryland's federal lawmakers are pressing the Federal Emergency Management Agency to give Garrett County more help in recovering from a blizzard spawned by Superstorm Sandy.

Democratic Rep. John Delaney said Thursday that he and the state's two U.S. senators have asked FEMA to reconsider its rejection of individual assistance for Garrett County. The designation would make federal dollars available to individuals and businesses.

The western Maryland county is in Delaney's district. The congressman says at least 23 homes were damaged by high winds and more than two feet of snow in late October.

All Maryland counties and the city of Baltimore have been approved for public assistance to help repair public structures damaged by the storm. Only Somerset County has also qualified for individual assistance.
