Charles Coursey
GEORGETOWN, Del. – Charles Coursey, the Sussex Technical High School teacher and Wesley College men's basketball coach arrested last year for engaging in an inappropriate sexual relationship with a student, was sentenced Friday.
Judge T. Henley Graves accepted Coursey's plea to two felony charges of sexual abuse by a person in a position of trust and a charge for obscenity, according to Jason Miller, a spokesman for the Delaware Department of Justice.
Coursey, 38, of Milton, was sentenced to five years in prison, during which he must complete a family problems course. His jail sentence is followed by 10 years of Level 3 (intensive) probation, Miller said.
Coursey was arrested in early 2012 for having sex with a 17-year-old high school student, according to Delaware State Police records.
He was also charged for sending the student obscene texts.
