NORFOLK, Va. —The University of Maryland Eastern Shore earned its fifth Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Bowling Athlete of the Week award this season, the conference announced Wednesday.
Senior Valentina Collazos (Cali, Colombia) was the recipient of the selection for the first time in her career. Collazos averaged a 215.2 over five team games, coming off the bench after one team game to spark the Lady Hawks to victory. She helped account for five wins on the day, rolling a career-high 236 in a win over Cheyney. Her play helped maintain the Hawks lead and she subsequently earned a start the following day during bracket play.
Collazos used the start to etch her name in the record books as the second bowler of five in the Hawks baker squad that rolled a perfect 300. The feat is only the second occurrence in UMES history in Baker games and third perfect game ever for a Hawk bowling team.
Collazos was a big part of the Hawks successfully defending the Kutztown Invitational title and posting a field best 14-1 mark to improve to 52-8 on the year.
UMES has now won three of the last four Kutztown Invites, capturing second in the 10-11 season.
UMES now looks to Texas where they will compete this weekend in the Prairie View Invitational held in Arlington at the International Training and Research Center.
