MILFORD, Del.- Two Delaware DNREC Fish and Wildlife Enforcement officers are being credited for rescuing a deer that fell through ice while walking on Milford's Haven Lake.

Officers Jeff Howel and Carl Wimckoski said that on Wednesday they observed the deer approach shore when the ice collapsed, leaving it in harm's way. The officers used a small nearby boat to break the ice in order to get closer to the deer.

Howel and Wimckoski said they were able to get the deer safely to shore by herding it through the path the small boat originally plowed.

The deer was not injured in the incident, according to the officers.
