DELMAR, Del.- Authorities have ruled as accidental an early Friday fire that heavily damaged a home in Delmar, Del.
The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office said the blaze broke out shortly before 1 a.m. on the 600 block of State Street.
The Delmar Fire Department responded to the scene and was assisted by the Laurel, Salisbury, Sharptown and Hebron Fire Departments. When firefighters arrived on the scene, they encountered smoke in the home.
The home was equipped with working smoking detectors. The occupant of the home was able to escape without injury and is being assisted by the Red Cross.
Damages have been estimated at $150,000.
State Fire Marshal investigators have determined that the fire originated in the ceiling of the home's utility room and was caused by an electrical malfunction.
