DOVER, Del. (AP) - Lawyers for the Department of Transportation and Delaware's largest liquor distributor are asking to meet secretly with a Chancery Court judge to discuss settling a lawsuit over a sweetheart land deal.
The request was filed this week in a state lawsuit seeking to revise a 2006 lease of state land in Milford that NKS Distributors wanted for a new warehouse but which also is the site of a planned road interchange.
State officials claim the lease was intended to be for five years, not 66 years as written.
When the lease was signed, NKS was led by Chris Tigani, a friend and political benefactor of then-Gov. Ruth Ann Minner.
Tigani is now serving a federal prison sentence for campaign finance fraud. He was indicted in December on related state charges.
