Md. Police Trainee Remains Critical After Shooting

Posted:

BALTIMORE (AP)- The Baltimore police commissioner has suspended some training academy staff after a campus police trainee was shot in the head by an instructor.

Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi says authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of Tuesday's shooting, which occurred during a training exercise in Baltimore County. All training academy operations have also been suspended.

The officer, a trainee for the University of Maryland, Baltimore campus police, remains in critical condition Wednesday at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

Guglielmi says investigators are still trying to determine what type of training exercise was being held. He says that while no police trainee should ever be put in mortal danger, there are circumstances in which they would be handling actual ammunition.

New Waterfront Hotel Breaks Ground in O.C., Part 2

The location of a new waterfront hotel that recently broke ground in Ocean City is raising some eyebrows with neighbors in the downtown area.

The Cambria Hotel is being built in the vacant lot that sits just north of the Route 50 drawbridge, meaning it will be one of the first things drivers see headed into town.

Brian Plimack, who lives just behind the development, said the hotel is too much of a drastic change to the town's skyline.
