Dover Couple Wins Marriage Contest

DOVER, Del.-Seven decades can go by in a blink when you spend it with the person you love.

"I love her cooking, I love her looks and I love her dancing and in general she's my pal," Bill Miller said.

The Dover couple recently won a contest from Worldwide Marriage Encounter, out of all the Delaware entries, they have been married the longest. They married in August of 1942 after she dated Bill's brother first.

"I used to go up to Camby pool to swim and he would swim at Camby pool up in Wilmington and then we got introduced by his brother so I started going with him," Ginny Miller said.

After a 18 months of dating, Bill was ready to propose. "I remember talking to her dad just before I was going to be shipped off," he said. "I bought the diamond for her engagement ring and asked permission to talk to his daughter."

Soon after they married, Bill was sent to fight in World War II for two years, but luckily he came home to his girl.

"He came home in January and I became pregnant and had my first child in October," Ginny Miller said.

After four children, five grand-children and one great grand-child, the Millers say marriage takes work but it's worth it.

"Love each other and if you have arguments you forget and you forgive, that's what keeps you going," Ginny Miller said. "The romance stuff finally fades away and you know, you just continue taking care of each other."
