Olatunji Kosile Posts Double-Double in UMES Homecoming Loss to Morgan State


PRINCESS ANNE, MD -The Hawks Olatunji Kosile finished with a game-high 10 rebounds, while scoring 11 points for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Saturday. Facing Morgan State University in the Hawks' homecoming, UMES lost to the Bears 87-55. UMES falls to 1-20 overall on the season.

Kosile had offensive rebounds, and shot better than 50-percent from the free-throw line. He had three blocks on the night for the Hawks. Teammate Troy Snyder finished with a team-high 14 points on 6-of-15 (.400) shooting from the field. A dunk by Snyder with 11:16 remaining in the first half brought the Hawks within 12 points (22-10).

Kevin Mays would score moments later with a layup for the Hawks to trail by 10 points. Mays finished with 10 points and two rebounds short of posting a double-double. Kosile returned to the stat sheet to break a four-minute scoring drought. Between 8:17 and Kosile's made free-throw at 4:17, the Hawks failed to score a basket.

By that point UMES was trailing by 21 points (39-18) to the Bears. A tip-in basket by Kosile, followed by two baskets by Snyder brought UMES within 19 points entering intermission.

UMES scored 18 points in the paint and held the Bears from scoring any second-chance opportunities. In comparison, the Hawks finished with 12 second-chance points in the first-half.

Opening the second half with ground to cover, UMES continued to score as Mays converted on three straight free throws. Louis Bell followed up on Mays' free throws with a jumper of his own. Ishaq Pitt would convert a free-throw for UMES before Donald Williams II scored a three pointer to bring UMES within 23 points (59-36).

Snyder helped continue a two-minute scoring run for the Hawks with a three pointer at 11:28 in the second half. The UMES defense would hold Morgan State from scoring for almost three minutes. A tip-in score by a Morgan State player would score at 7:44, with UMES scoring shortly after on a layup by Mays. UMES was able to stay within 20 points as it went basket-for-basket with Morgan State.

Snyder would score the last field goal for the Hawks with a three pointer at 2:05 in the second half. UMES would not score again until Dominique Cowell made two free throws with less than five seconds on the clock.

The Hawks return to William P. Hytche Monday, Feb. 18 to face Coppin State. That game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
