Home of the Brave Opening Shelter for Female Veterans

Posted:

MILFORD, Del.- Home of the Brave is a kind of fill-up station for Gary Dawkins.

"You come here use all the resources that you can and besides that, you have a lot of caring people, which is a great help," Dawkins said.

More than a dozen men live at the Home of the Brave house in Milford, but homeless female veterans are out of luck.

"There's nothing on the Delmarva peninsula for homeless women veterans and those with children," said Linda Boone with Home of the Brave.

Home of the Brave is opening a facility for homeless female veterans, and it can't come soon enough.

"We get those calls, 'Are you open now, can we come now' and it's very heartbreaking to have to say, 'No, we're not ready yet.'" Boone said.

The female Home of the Brave house is expected to open in May. For more information on Home of the Brave go to http://homeofthebravefdn.org/
