MIDDLETOWN, Del. (AP/WBOC)- An Eastern Shore of Maryland man has been charged with drunken driving after police say he abandoned his car on railroad tracks in Middletown.
Twenty-six-year-old William F. Mayer III of Greensboro, Md., was charged with third offense driving under the influence of alcohol and having no proof of insurance after the incident late Sunday night.
Police Chief Henry Tobin said a preliminary breath test found that Mayer had a blood-alcohol level three times the legal threshold for drunken driving. Tobin said Mayer refused to submit to additional testing at police headquarters.
He said officers found Mayor stumbling along the road and that he appeared visibly drunk. The abandoned car was moved from the train tracks.
Mayer was later released pending a March 5 preliminary hearing.
