Student Robbed at Gunpoint

Posted: Updated:

NEWARK, Del.- Newark police say a Wilmington University graduate student has been robbed at gunpoint.

Investigators said the incident occurred at around 1:35 a.m. Tuesday on 100 East Delaware Ave. Police said the victim, a 24-year-old male, was walking eastbound on East Delaware Avenue when he was grabbed from behind by an unknown suspect.

Police said the suspect demanded the victim's money while pressing a gun to his face. Police said the suspect stole the victim's wallet and cellphone, before throwing him to the ground and fleeing the scene in what was described as a dark, four-door sedan.

Investigators said that while on the ground, three additional suspects came to the scene and started to punch the victim in the face and head. Police reported that the victim was able to break free from the three suspects, who then fled the scene.

The victim described the original suspect as a light-skinned black male, approximately 20 years of age, thin build and with loose hair braids.

No surveillance video in available at this time and anyone with additional information should contact Detective Greg Micolucci at (302) 366-7110 or greg.micolucci@cj.state.de.us.
