WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - A charity run for a wounded Delaware police officer raised more than $20,000.
More than 1,000 turned out Sunday for the 5K run to benefit Patrolman Justin Wilkers.
Wilkers was shot in the face earlier this month when he and his partner tried to stop an SUV for a traffic violation. The SUV sped off before three people got out and fired at Wilkers. Three Wilmington men have been charged in the case.
The officer underwent surgery following the shooting and has been released from the hospital. Doctors say Wilkers did not suffer any apparent brain or nerve injury.
