GREENSBORO, N.C.– Maryland senior midfielder John Haus and junior goalie Niko Amato have been named Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Lacrosse Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, as announced Tuesday by the conference office.
Haus tied his career high with four goals to go along with one assist to lead the Terrapins to a 12-10 win at No. 1 Loyola. He scored once and added an assist in Maryland's 5-0 run in the first quarter, and then added a second goal heading into halftime to give Maryland the momentum and a 7-3 lead.
The native of Lutherville, Md., scored two of Maryland's four goals in a wild third quarter, and his second goal in the third stymied a Greyhound rally.
Amato saved his best for the biggest moments against top-ranked Loyola, making 10 of his 13 saves in the second and fourth quarters to preserve the victory. His communication and organization helped the Terrapins hold the Greyhound offense to just three goals in the first half and six midway through the third.
Led by Amato, the Maryland defense helped Loyola's starting attack unit to just three goals. The native of Conshohocken, Pa., quarterbacked the Terrapins' clearing game that saw Maryland successfully clear the ball on 20-of-21 attempts. He also had two groundballs and a caused turnover in the win.
