DOVER, Del. (AP)- A Delaware man convicted of murdering his former girlfriend is asking state officials to commute his life prison sentence.
The state Board of Pardons was to consider Glenn E. MacDonald's commutation request at its meeting Wednesday in Wilmington.
MacDonald was arrested in 1990 and charged with killing Julie Spencer, who was beaten and strangled.
MacDonald's first trial ended in a hung jury. He was found guilty at a second trial in 1993 and, while awaiting sentencing, was charged with trying to hire a hit man to kill a witness who also was originally a suspect in Spencer's death and later testified against MacDonald.
