NEWARK, Del. (AP) - Newark police have arrested a man they say had a gun in his car that had been stolen from the department in 1987.
Forty-eight-year old-John Brierley Jr. of Bear was charged Wednesday with receiving a stolen firearm and other offenses. He was released on $15,000 unsecured bond.
Newark police say Delaware State Police found a .22 caliber revolver in Brierley's car during a traffic stop on Jan. 17, 2012. A check of the serial number showed the gun had been reported stolen by Newark Police after an audit of the department's evidence storage facility.
