Washington College Sailing 13th at Graham Hall Team Race

ANNAPOLIS, MD -- The Washington College sailing team finished 13th of 16 schools at the Graham Hall Team Race, held yesterday and today at the United States Naval Academy.

Washington posted a 2-13 record against the other 15 teams in the full round robins. The top eight teams after the full round robin moved on to a "gold" round robin while the bottom eight teams competed in a "silver" round robin. In the silver round robin, Washington went 4-3 to finish 6-16 overall in head-to-head races. Washington's wins in the silver round robin came against Old Dominion, Hobart/William Smith, Eckerd, and Texas A&M-Galveston.

The College of Charleston went 20-2 at the regatta and took first place. Charleston is currently ranked third in the Sail1Design College Sailing Team Race Rankings. Fifth-ranked St. Mary's was second at 17-5 and top-ranked Georgetown, which won a tie-breaker race with Boston College, finished third at 17-6.

Senior Sam Bedinger (Richmond, VA/St. Christopher's), junior Sam Fitzgerald (Fairfield, CT/Greens Farms Academy), sophomore Ryan Bailey(Toms River, NJ/Toms River South), and freshman Eric Siegel (Kilmarnock, VA/Christchurch School) served as Washington's skippers.  Seniors Matt Lawler (Alexandria, VA/Christchurch School) and Maggie Smith (Annapolis, MD/Garrison Forest), sophomores Blair Towers (Goochland, VA/St. Anne's-Belfield) and Eleanor Conroy (West Dennis, MA/Tabor Academy), and freshman Alex Crawford (Annapolis, MD/Severna Park)were the team's crews. 

Saturday's races sailed in a northwest wind of 8-13 knots as nearly the entirety of the full 16-team round robin was completed. Sunday's races saw similar conditions as the round robin was completed and gold and silver round robins conducted.

The Washington College sailing team returns to action next weekend when it will host the Washington College Team Race.
