YORK, Pa. – Sophomore hurler Rachel Johnson was selected as the Capital Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Johnson pitched two complete seven-inning contests for the Sea Gulls in the Virginia Wesleyan Beach Blast.
The Preston, Md., native blanked Randolph-Macon College and Methodist University allowing just three hits between the two contests while striking out 22 opponent batters. Johnson is now 3-0 in the circle keeping opponents to a measly .088 batting average.
Salisbury now has two back-to-back weekly conference awards as freshman third baseman Katie Sebbane picked up last week's Player of the Week honor.
Salisbury (6-0) returns to action on the road against Virginia Wesleyan College at 2 p.m., on Tuesday, March 5. The Sea Gulls will then return home to host the Sea Gull Classic at the Henry Parker Complex in Salisbury, Md., on March 8 and March 9.
