GREENSBORO, N.C.– Maryland junior midfielder Mike Chanenchuk and sophomore defenseman Goran Murray have been named Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Lacrosse Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, as announced Tuesday by the conference office.
Chanenchuk set a career high with six points on four goals and two assists to lead the Terrapins to a 16-7 win at No. 19 Duke in Maryland's ACC opener. Three of his six points came in an early 5-0 Maryland run to open up a 7-1 Terrapin lead.
The junior from Poquott, N.Y., showed off an array of shots in scoring his four goals. Naturally right-handed, Chanenchuk twice scored on left-handed shots from the outside and scored the other two on right-handed finishes. His second assist of the game came on Maryland's lone extra-man goal. The four goals are the most he's had as a Terrapin.
Murray had an outstanding performance against the Blue Devils on Saturday. The Merion Station, Pa., native was charged with defending Duke's leading scorer Jordan Wolf, who was limited without a goal and to one assist in 6-on-6 situations.
Overall, Murray and his two starting defensemen teammates held Duke's starting attack to zero goals on seven shots while Maryland's starters were in the game.
The ACC weekly award is the first in the careers of both players.
