Heavy Precipitation, Flooding Expected in Del.

DOVER, Del. (AP) - A winter storm bearing down on the mid-Atlantic region is expected to bring heavy precipitation and coastal flooding to Delaware.

Forecasters are predicting heavy precipitation rain, snow, or a combination of both, along with winds of 25 to 35 miles per hour and gusts up to 55 miles per hour.

Emergency management officials warned residents in flood-prone areas of Delaware to be aware of potential flooding and consider relocating before the storm's arrival late Tuesday. Officials said areas of Kent and Sussex Counties that typically experience flooding during coastal storms were almost certain to experience flooding, and that conditions during the height of the storm could make evacuation of flooded areas dangerous or impossible.

Officials said flooding from the storm could be comparable to that from hurricanes Irene and Sandy.
