GEORGETOWN, Del. (WBOC/AP)- Thousands of customers have had their power restored in Delaware and eastern Maryland after high winds from a winter storm knocked down trees and power lines.

Delaware Electric Cooperative, which serves mainly rural areas in central and southern Delaware, reports Thursday that power was restored to nearly every customer by Thursday morning. The utility had about 4,900 customers without power early Wednesday evening.

Delmarva Power reports about 315 customers were still affected with outages on Thursday morning. That is down from about 1,100 customers who were in the dark Wednesday evening. The majority of the remaining outages are in Sussex County.

Choptank Electric Cooperative, which serves Maryland's Eastern Shore, reported three outages, with a total of 12 customers affected.
