ORANGEBURG, S.C.- The Delaware State University men's basketball team takes on South Carolina State in the 2012-13 regular season finale on Thursday evening. The game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at SC State's Smith-Hammond-Middleton Center.
The Hornets are 13-16 overall and currently tied with North Carolina A&T for sixth in the MEAC with an 8-7 record in the conference. DSU holds the tie- breaker over NCA&T by virtue of its win over the Aggies on Feb. 4. NCA&T closes out the regular season at first place Norfolk State this evening.
The sixth place team in the final MEAC standings will take on the No. 11 seed in the first round of the league tournament on Tuesday (Mar. 12) at 9:00 p.m. in Norfolk, Va., South Carolina State is last in the MEAC with a 1-14 mark (5-23 overall). The Hornets are trying to bounce back from a 66-47 loss to Morgan State on Monday.
Delaware State is led is scoring by sophomore guard Tahj Tate, who is 11th in the MEAC with a 12.4 point per-game average. DSU senior forward Marques Oliver ranks in the Top 10 in the MEAC in four categories. Oliver is sixth in the league in blocks (2.0 pg) and steals (1.8 pg); and eighth in rebounding (6.8 pg) and free throw shooting (.779).
