LEWES, Del.- The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office has charged a 17-year-old junior member of the Lewes Fire Company with making a false 9-1-1 call for a fire in Milton more than two months ago.
According to investigators, shortly after 8:30 p.m. Jan 2, the Lewes Fire Company responded to the 29000 block of Whites Neck Way shortly for a 9-1-1 report of a fire. When firefighters arrived on the scene, they determined that no fire or other emergency existed.
The investigation revealed that the call was false and the caller was a junior Lewes firefighter, authorities said. He was arrested Monday night and charged with falsely reporting an incident, a misdemeanor, for calling 9-1-1 and reporting a fire when no fire or other emergency existed.
The teen has been released to his parents pending a Family Court hearing.
