DOVER, Del.- Dover police have arrested a suspect wanted in connection with a weekend shooting that left two people injured in the city's Capital Green neighborhood.

Ellik Best, 43, of Dover, was taken into custody Thursday and charged with first- and second-degree assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited and possession of ammunition by a person prohibited. He was ordered held in the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in default of $26,000 secured bond.

Best's arrest stemmed from an incident that allegedly occurred at around 2:45 a.m. Saturday in the alley of New Castle Avenue east of River Road. According to police, Best and a 24-year-old male victim got into an argument when Best pulled out a handgun and a struggle ensued, resulting in the firearm being discharged.

The bullet struck both the male victim and a 39-year-old female victim in the hand, police said. After the shooting, both victims immediately fled the scene in their vehicle and went to Bay Health Hospital. Police said the male victim refused treatment at Bay Health for the minor injury and the female victim was admitted to Bay Health and transferred to Christiana Hospital.

Earlier this week, Dover police detectives investigating the shooting identified Best as the suspect and obtained warrants for his arrest. He turned himself in to police on Thursday.
