Federal Budget Cut Could Hurt Del. School District

Posted:

DOVER, Del. (AP)- Officials in Delaware's Caesar Rodney School District are increasingly worried about how federal budget cuts will affect their ability to educate students who live at Dover Air Force Base.

The concern is minimal for this spring. But the school district could face a reduction of more than $584,000 for the next school year if budget cuts last beyond Oct. 1.

The district receives $7.4 million from the Pentagon to educate students from Dover Air Force Base. But it could face a nearly 8 percent cut for the 2014 contract.

School officials say a loss of federal funding would have a ripple effect on all other district schools because the Pentagon contract stipulates that it provide the same services and programs to services on the base.
