LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va.– The Washington Redskins announced today that they have re-signed unrestricted free agent punter Sav Rocca. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Rocca, 39, returns for his third season with the Redskins and his seventh overall in the NFL. Last season, he punted in all 16 regular season games, averaging a career-high 43.9 yards per punt. In 2011, he finished the season with a career-high 28 punts downed inside the 20-yard line and tied a career-high in net punting average with 39.0, tied for the second-highest in franchise history.
Rocca (6-5, 263) is a former veteran of the Australian Football League who spent his first four NFL seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. He has 433 career punts for 18,643 yards (43.1 avg.), including 152 downed inside the 20-yard line and career net average of 37.6.
During his 15-year career in the Australian Football League, Rocca played in 257 games and scored 748 goals for the Collingwood Magpies (1992-99) and the North Melbourne Kangaroos (2000-06).
