PRESTON, Md.- An unfortunate spelling mistake has turned Drummer Drive in Caroline County into "Dummer Drive."
Homeowners along the road say when they saw it, they could not believe their eyes.
"I am hoping it was just a coincidence that it happened and that it was just a grammar error when they made the sign," said Norma Lord.
"I am kind of amused by it now but it's something to tell the kids," said Ted Haapala.
People who live on Drummer Drive are still receiving their mail but some say having the wrong street name could cause serious problems.
"The UPS and Fedex drivers might not know it as well plus if you have a delivery from Lowe's or Home Depot or somebody like that they will have trouble finding it," Happla said.
The Caroline County Public Works Department installed the sign on March 13 and didn't realize it was spelled incorrectly. County sign technician Ray Arnie said it was just a case of human error.
"As a general rule I always stop and look at it to make sure everything is correct, but in this case we just got in a hurry and we didn't check," Arnie said. "The 'R' is missing on it and I just got in a hurry but it won't happen again."
Arnie made sure the sign came down Monday. He unscrewed the bolts and took the sign to the dumpster. The street is nameless right now and awaiting a new sign with the correct spelling.
