NEWARK, Del. (AP/WBOC)- Newark police say a Louisiana man accused of two rapes in 2006 has been extradited to Delaware.
Twenty-nine-year-old John Paul Thomas was returned to Delaware on Wednesday. He was arrested in September 2010 on an oil rig off the Louisiana coast, where he was working.
Thomas is accused of two rapes that occurred in Newark in October 2006. In both cases, the woman was asleep in her home, awakened by a stranger and raped. Police said DNA evidence matched Thomas to both crimes.
Thomas was sentenced in August in Louisiana to 12 years in prison for an attempted rape in Lafayette in 2007.
Following his extradition to Delaware, Thomas was ordered held on $251,000 secured bail.
