ANNAPOLIS, MD - The Navy women's golf team won its first match in school history on Saturday as it defeated Mount St. Mary's in a dual by a 356-361 score at the Naval Academy Golf Course.
Navy improves to 1-0 with the victory, which came in just its second Division I competition in school history.
"The conditions were cold and windy and proved to be very challenging for everyone," said Navy head coach Nadia Ste-Marie. "Our team pulled together and shot our second lowest team score to capture our first win of the season. The team has worked really hard and their work is starting to pay off. We are seeing great golf shots and more consistency. I was pleased with the effort today."
Renata Bucher paced the Midshipmen with an 83 to earn medalist honors in the match, two shots ahead of The Mount's Amanda Reach (85). Catherine Reed and Grace Dalton each recorded 89s and Natalie Crow rounded out Navy's scoring with a 95.
Sara Fuss added a 90 for Mount St. Mary's, while Abbey Fry and Kelsey Hayward tallied a 91 and 95 to round out The Mount's scoring.
Navy will be in action next Saturday when it hosts a dual against Towson, beginning at 9:30 AM at the Naval Academy Golf Course.
