Washington College Women's Lacrosse Nationally Ranked for First Time Since 2002

Posted: Updated:

GRAND LAKE, Colo.- For the first time since the 2002 season, the Washington College women's lacrosse team is ranked in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association National Division III Top 20. The Shorewomen check in at No. 20 in this week's poll, which was released Tuesday morning.

The Shorewomen completed their non-conference portion of the regular season last week with a 15-10 win over Elizabethtown and a 20-12 win at Drew to improve to 7-0. Their average margin of victory this season has been 7.4 goals per game.

Washington was last ranked in the April 23, 2002 poll when the Shorewomen were also ranked 20th. Washington debuted in the rankings that season one week earlier after the Shorewomen had upset then 14th-ranked Franklin & Marshall, 12-11, in overtime. Fittingly, Franklin & Marshall - now ranked ninth in the nation - is the Shorewomen's next opponent.  Washington will open Centennial Conference play against the Diplomats at home this Saturday at 1 p.m.
