DOVER, Del.- Dover police have arrested a couple accused of embezzling more than $300,000 from a city business over a three-year period.

Police said Monday's arrests of 42-year-old Roberta Cook and her husband, 45-year-old William E. Cook Jr., stemmed from an investigation that got under way earlier this month, when detectives began investigating an embezzlement from the Dover Rent-All, a rental equipment company located at 724 S. West St.

According to police, the investigation revealed that Roberta Cook, who was the former Dover Rent-All office manager, was writing company checks and using the company credit card for numerous personal expenses and family travel. Authorities said numerous checks were written to her husband William.

The investigation revealed illegal transactions dating back to January of 2010, according to police. Police said that at this point, the defendants are charged with taking more than $300,000 from the business.

Both defendants were arrested Monday and each was charged with three counts of theft greater than $100,000, three counts of second-degree forgery, five counts of unlawful use of a credit card and second-degree conspiracy.

Roberta Cook was ordered held in the Delores J. Baylor Correctional Center in default of $39,000 secured bond. Her husband was released on $39,000 unsecured bond.
