Worcester Co. Health Dept. to Host 4th Public Health Conference

SNOW HILL, Md.The Worcester County Health Department will celebrate National Public Health Week 2013 by hosting its 4th Annual Public Health Conference for invited community partners on Wednesday, April 3 at the Clarion Resort in Ocean City.

Community leaders from public health, local hospitals, nursing homes, government, business, law enforcement, education, nonprofits and other sectors will attend the conference to discuss and hear the latest news about a number of exciting public health topics. The agenda includes sessions about local health initiatives, Maryland Health Benefit Exchange, prescription drug abuse, and emergency preparedness.

In addition to the conference, Worcester County Health Department will offer two programs to get families out and moving during Public Health Week and the week after.  The Ocean City Family Fun Walk – 1 mile will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 6 at Northside Park in Ocean City. The 16th Annual Tortoise and Hare Dare 5k Walk/Run will be Saturday, April 13 at Pocomoke River State Park – Shad Landing. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the walk starts at 9 a.m.

Since 1995, communities throughout the country have celebrated National Public Health Week the first week of April to draw attention to the need to help protect and improve the nation's health. For more information about National Public Health Week, visit www.nphw.org.
