Six-Thousand Chicks Dead at Perdue Research Facility

POCOMOKE CITY, Md. - Six-thousand chicks are dead after a fire breaks out at a Perdue Farms' Research Facility outside of Princess Anne.

Spokeswoman Julie DeYoung says it happened around 3:15 p.m. Wednesday in the 5300 block of Heather Lane in Pocomoke City.

DeYoung says  two of the research compound's 10 chick houses were destroyed. Employees at the facility left at 2 p.m. No injuries have been reported.

DeYoung says the facility is used to test animal breeding and feed.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
