DSP Investigating Deadly Shooting in Kent County

Posted:

WYOMING,  Del. - One person is dead and another injured after a shooting inside of a Kent County, Delaware home.

Delaware State Police say it happened shortly after 11 a.m. Thursday along South Layton Avenue in Wyoming.

Investigators say a 57-year old woman was pronounced dead on the scene. A second person, a 56-year old male, was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

Investigators say a relative of the deceased woman went to the home, located at 120 South Layton Avenue, to check her welfare due to her not showing up to work.  When the relative entered the house, the relative discovered the woman and her husband on the floor of the bedroom with apparent gunshot wounds.

The relative then alerted another family member who called 9-1-1.

Ed Thornley lives across the street.

"I've been here 50 years. He's been here 10, maybe 11," he said. "I happened to come to the front of the house, and I saw all the police cars out here. Then I noticed an ambulance came."

Delaware State Police say this is an isolated incident.

"I never seen anything like this," Thornley said. "This is a very, very quiet street."
