Dover, Del. (Mar. 29, 2013) --- Ryan Haas, Mike Alexander and Hassan Evans drove in two runs each to lead Delaware State to a 9-4 MEAC win over Maryland-Eastern Shore at Soldier Field this afternoon. The Hornets trailed 2-0 before combining for seven runs in the third and fourth innings to take control of the game.

DSU starter Jordan Elliott was the winning pitcher, improving to 4-0 this season. Elliott allowed seven hits and four runs, while striking out four, in seven innings. He is now 23-11 with the Hornets. Tim Vaillancourt (2000-03) is DSU's career leader with 25 wins.

George Michael tossed two shutout innings of relief to earn his second save for the Hornets.
UMES opened the scoring when Tre-von Johnson smacked a two-run homer off Elliott in the top of the first inning to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead.

Delaware State put five runs on the board in the third inning to take the lead. Cameron Onderko led off the DSU third with a walk. The next batter, J.P. Frey, reached on an error; and Cameron Cecil drew a walk to load the bases. Two batters later, Haas singled to right field to score Frey with the Hornets first run. Mike Alexander followed with a two-run single to give DSU a 3-2 lead. Evans and Nick Arrue added run-scoring singles in the inning, which ended with the Hornets ahead 5-2.

Delaware State added two runs in the fourth to take a 7-2 lead. Aaron Nardone drove in the first run of the inning on a sacrifice fly and Haas knocked in his second run of the game on a one-out double.

The Hawks scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to cut the Hornets' lead to 7-4.
Delaware State added two insurance in the bottom of the eighth. Eddie Sorondo doubled in a run and Evans drove in his second run of the game on a single to give the Hornets a 9-4 lead.
Five players had two hits for the Hornets. Alexander was 2-for-3 to improve his team-leading average to. .397.

Delaware State won its fourth straight game to improve to 16-7 overall and 7-0 in the MEAC. The Hornets have won 24 of their last 25 MEAC regular season games since the 2012 season.
The Hawks fell to 5-22 and 2-5.

DSU and UMES will wrap up the series with a doubleheader on Saturday, starting at noon. The first game is scheduled for nine innings; the nightcap is set for seven innings
