CENTERVILLE, Mass.– Salisbury University senior shortstop Hannah Mills and sophomore pitcher Rachel Johnson earned the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III South Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, after sweeping the Capital Athletic Conference awards on Monday.
This is the first time that Mills has been named the ECAC Division III South Player of the Week after ripping 10 hits in 13 at-bats in four games last week. The Parksley, Va., native smashed two home runs, a triple and five doubles in her 13 attempts while taking three walks. The senior touched home six times and contributed 10 RBIs. Mills was not only hot in the box but also perfect in the field.
Johnson claims the Pitcher of the Week award for the second time, having earned the accolade on March 21. The sophomore tossed 15 innings, including a sweep of No. 21 Christopher Newport University and a five-inning shutout of York (Pa.) College. In her three appearances in the circle, Johnson allowed just two earned runs off 10 hits while fanning 24 opponent batters.
The Sea Gulls (20-2) will return to action on Saturday, April 5 as they host the University of Mary Washington in a Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader. First pitch is set for 12:30 p.m.
