TOWNSEND, Md.- Delaware State Police troopers say they arrested a Townsend man after they linked him to a string of mailbox vandalism incidents.
Billy Moffett, 20, is charged with 15 counts of criminal mischief under $1,500.
Police said Moffett's arrest stemmed from an investigation that got under way on Sunday, March 24, when troopers took 15 reports of mailboxes that had been damaged overnight along roads in the Townsend and Smyrna areas. Troopers determined that the mailboxes had been struck by a vehicle.
During the ensuing investigation, troopers said they were able to identify the type of vehicle used to damage the mailboxes, a Ford pickup truck. After locating a Ford pickup truck with damage consistent with striking several mailboxes, troopers said they were able to connect Moffett to the incidents.
On Monday, April 1, Moffett was arrested and arraigned on the aforementioned charges. He was released on $1,500 unsecured bail, and required to abide by a curfew as a condition of release.
