Most Big Issues Resolved for Md. Legislature

Posted: Updated:

ANNAPOLIS, Md.  - The Maryland General Assembly is wrapping up its legislative session.

Lawmakers are heading into their last day Monday with the state budget already approved.

This year, lawmakers have passed some of the most contentious bills ahead of the last day. They include a gun-control measure, a gas tax increase and a repeal of the death penalty.

They also have approved a measure to further implement federal health care reform, which includes an expansion of Medicaid eligibility. A major funding measure for Baltimore schools also has been passed.

Lawmakers took care to pass the budget with time to spare. Last year, a budget deal collapsed in the waning hours of the last day. Gov. Martin O'Malley called a special session to fix it.
