SELBYVILLE, Del.- Engineers have installed two new water wells in Selbyville after a chemical used as a gasoline additive contaminated the town's water supply.

Selbyville Town Administrator Robert Dickerson said the town has already shut down one of its three working water wells due to elevated levels of methyl teritary butyl ether, or MTBE, in the town's water supply.

After years of testing, the Delaware State Office of Drinking Water has built the new wells with the hopes of finding clean water. However, engineers at the new water well site say one of the wells is showing elevated levels of MTBE. Water from that well can be treated and filtered for safe drinking.

Dickerson says the next step is to install pumps at both of the new water wells, followed by a new water filtration system. He hopes to have both wells up and running by the end of 2013.
