SALISBURY, Md.– The Salisbury University baseball team rose to No. 3 in both the American Baseball Coaches Association top 30 poll and the D3baseball.com/National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association top 25 poll, it was announced Tuesday.
The Sea Gulls went 4-0 last week with wins over the Catholic University of America and a three-game sweep of Wesley College in Capital Athletic Conference play.
SU earned 425 points in ABCA voting to finish behind Linfield College and Kean University, with 462 and 461 points, respectively. The top-two teams claimed 14-of-16 first-place votes as Linfield garnered eight. The remaining two went to No. 5 Johns Hopkins University and No. 9 Trinity (Texas) University.
Kean assumed the top spot in the D3basball.com poll with 580 points and eight first-place votes. Linfield followed with six first-place votes and 566 points. SU took four first-place votes and 556 points.
The next three schools, the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) (three), Johns Hopkins (three) and Marietta College (one) shared the remaining first-place votes. The Tommies earned 536 points, the Blue Jays 524 and the Pioneers 461.
Salisbury (21-5, 9-3 CAC) welcomes the University of Mary Washington to the SU Baseball Field for a three-game series this Friday and Saturday to decide the regular-season champion of the league and top seed in the upcoming conference tournament. The Eagles sit one game behind the Sea Gulls heading into action.
