CENTERVILLE, Mass.– For the third time this season, sophomore pitcher Rachel Johnson has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III South Pitcher of the Week, the organization announced.
Johnson pitched two complete games for Salisbury last week, including a 7-1 Capital Athletic Conference win over the University of Mary Washington in which the sophomore had 12 strikeouts and allowed no earned runs. The Preston, Md., native then set a career-high 15 strikeouts against Washington (Md.) College in just six innings of work as the Sea Gulls run-ruled the Shorewomen, 11-3.
In her last appearance in the circle, Johnson entered in the top of the fifth inning in game two against the Shorewomen and silenced their bats, allowing just one hit in four innings pitched.
Johnson ended the week scattering 10 hits, walking two, and fanning 33 opponents.
Salisbury (24-2) returns to action Wednesday, April 10 as it heads up Route 13 to take on CAC opponent Wesley College. The doubleheader is set to begin at 3 p.m.
