2 Injured, 1 in Custody After Shooting at Va. Mall


CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. (AP)- A suspect is in custody following a shooting at the New River Valley Mall in Christiansburg that left two women injured.

Emergency officials received a 911 call around 2 p.m. Friday about a subject with a gun at the New River Community College satellite location in the mall. The caller reported hearing shots fired.

Upon arrival, authorities located two adult females with gunshot wounds. One was airlifted to the hospital and the other was taken by ambulance. Their conditions and identities are unknown.

A spokeswoman for the town of Christiansburg said authorities do not believe there's any continuing threat to the community at large.

Montgomery County Schools were briefly locked down as a precaution.

Officials did not provide any other information about the suspected shooter that was taken into custody.
