DEWEY BEACH, Del. (AP) - Police departments in Delaware's beach resort towns are getting ready to train new recruits for the busy summer season.

In Bethany Beach, Police Chief Mike Redmon said that 14 reserve police officers will be hired for bike and foot patrols. That addition will double the current staff.

In Rehoboth, 24 seasonal officers have already started their training. Police Chief Keith Banks says that while the new recruits will have full arrest powers, it's just as important for him to have additional eyes and ears patrolling the streets and mile-long boardwalk.

In Dewey Beach, police spokesman Cliff Dempsey says there will be at least 20 seasonal officers supplementing its staff, as well as part-time sworn-in police officers and retired officers from other agencies.
