DOVER, Del.- Dover police have arrested a suspect accused of firing several shots with a stolen handgun.

Police said that on Sunday, April 14, officers received several 911 calls regarding multiple gunshots being fired in the area of Walker Road and Bicentennial Boulevard. Numerous units from the Dover Police Department Patrol Division responded to the area. According to police, officers came into contact with 27-year-old Erick B. Morton of Dover, who matched the description provided by witnesses of the shooter.

Authorities said Morton was found to be in possession of a .40-caliber Smith & Wesson semi-automatic handgun that was later determined to have been reported stolen to the Delaware State Police Troop #3.

Police said the investigation also revealed that because of prior felony/drug convictions, Morton was a person prohibited from possessing a deadly weapon.

Officers did not locate anyone struck by any of the bullets fired or any property damaged as a result of the shooting.

As a result of the incident, Morton was charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited and receiving a stolen firearm. He was ordered held in the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center on a $72,000 secured bond.
