WYOMING, Del.- Authorities are investigating Monday evening fire that caused an estimated $50,000 to a Kent County garage and its contents.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office said the fire was reported by the homeowner shortly before 9 p.m. in the 3100 block of Mud Mill Rd west of Wyoming.  The Marydel Volunteer Fire Company responded to the call and arrived with heavy fire coming from the detached garage.  Assistance was requested from the Camden-Wyoming, Felton, Hartly and Goldsboro, Md., volunteer fire companies.  The fire was placed under control by 10 p.m.

The homeowner was transported by ambulance to Kent General Hospital for smoke inhalation and was treated and released.

Deputy state fire marshals said their investigation determined the fire was caused when automotive welding equipment ignited nearby combustibles.
