GREENSBORO, N.C.– Maryland senior attacker Alex Aust and senior goalkeeper Kasey Howard have been named Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Lacrosse Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, announced Tuesday by the conference.
Aust tallied nine goals and five assists in a pair of wins for No. 1 Maryland last week to help the squad complete an unbeaten home regular season slate. Against No. 13 Princeton on Wednesday, the senior was one of four Terps to tally a hat trick and also added a ground ball and a caused turnover in a 15-9 win over the Tigers.
A native of Sterling, Va., Aust moved into sole possession of third place on Maryland's all-time career assists list (120) with one on Senior Day against Dartmouth. She added a game-high six goals as Maryland moved to 16-0 in 2013, her ninth game this season with at least four goals. Aust leads the conference with 6.00 points per game and ranks second nationally with 96 points. This is her third weekly honor of the season.
Howard recorded 16 saves in two wins over Princeton and Dartmouth last week. She registered six stops against the Tigers Wednesday and tallied her fifth double-digit save performance of the year with 10 saves against Dartmouth on Sunday.
A senior from Annapolis, Md., Howard ranks second in the conference in saves per game (6.12), save percentage (.443), and goals against average (8.48). It is her second ACC Defensive Player of the Week honor after previously earning recognition on Feb. 19.
Maryland heads to Virginia Tech to conclude the regular season slate Saturday at noon.
