Va. Woman Convicted of Leaving Baby in Dryer to Die

HENRICO, Va. (AP)- A Henrico woman faces up to 15 years in prison on charges of putting her newborn daughter in a dryer and leaving the infant to die.

Media outlets report that 40-year-old Angela Marie Janecka entered an Alford plea to attempted first-degree murder and felony child neglect on Tuesday. An Alford plea means the defendant doesn't admit guilt but agrees that evidence is strong enough to convict them.

Prosecutors say Janecka called her husband, who was at work, on Aug. 25, 2012, and told him the baby was stillborn. He found the baby alive in the dryer. The baby was in a plastic bag inside a pillow case.

The child is now living with a foster family.

Janecka is scheduled to be sentenced July 24 in Henrico County Circuit Court.
